A printed carton can pass every quality check and still fail at one narrow strip. That strip is the side joint, the glue flap where the box is closed into a tube before it is filled.

What Side Pasting Means in Carton Making
A flat printed blank is cut, creased and folded so that one edge overlaps a narrow flap. Glue on that flap turns the blank into a folded tube. This is the side joint, also called the manufacturer’s joint.
A good box side pasting adhesive sets quickly in the folder gluer, holds through all of this, and leaves no glue squeezing out onto the print.

Suited to hand pasting where paper meets a plastic or film surface. This makes it the go-to grade for side joints on film laminated cartons, which normal paper gum struggles to hold.

Board and Surface Compatibility
Laminated cartons are made in two steps. The film is bonded to the board first with a lamination adhesive, and the side joint is pasted after die cutting.

How to Trial a New Side Pasting Gum on Your Line
Switching adhesive should not mean a full day of rejected cartons. A short trial tells you most of what you need.
